Calendar Overview

Each year consists of four seasons of three months each. The recurring seasons form the basis for the Avodai’s sense of cyclical time: periods of abundance and lean, exertion and rehabilitation, joy and mourning. Even within the smaller segments of a month, we honor the need for rest, such that within a month, there are four weekly cycles split between work and rest.

The Avodai New Year begins with thanking the Light for Autumn, a season of abundance and work through harvesting. Winter leanness will always follow, and proper stewardship for the community means storing away excess to supplement during times of need. Our young elate at Spring’s abundance and playfulness, but our elders’ sagaciously guide us to begin sowing our seeds. By giving appropriate effort in each season, and hopefully receiving the Light’s blessing, we collectively thrive in all seasons to follow. The Avodai year ends in Summer where one’s sins come to bear. If living by the Way, your life may be bearing fruit, and if traveling without such guidance you may be exhausted and burdened.
