Capped Jesters

Table of Contents

While all spirits tend to be tricksters, this spirit has jester in its name for good reason. They love to cause chaos and toss pots and pans across your home while invisible to the human eye. Capped Jesters are the bane of wine and cider makers as they like to pour out your wine and cider barrels. They do not waste all the drink they pour and tend to have rambunctious parties in the forest and caves at night. If you do not secure your goats in a barn at night, they will drink off their teats.

If you manage to steal their cap, they must become your servant. Therefore, a few work at wineries and cideries under coercion. Even in that role, they enjoy their drink, which they take as payment.

Commentary #

It is forbidden to take slaves, so why should we be permitted to enslave a Capped Jester? This practice must be ended in these enlightened times. As an apprentice, I snuck out to one of their parties, offering some cider. I won’t say much more to save my reputation, but I will say it was quite a fun time. Rafa Shai

I quite agree that slavery is forbidden, humans or spirits alike. Whenever we try to stop the practice, our wine and cider makers revolt saying there’s no alternative to tame the Capped Jesters. Rafa Keila tried to negotiate with mixed results. At minimum we strong-arm the proprietor to pay the spirit and provide fair working conditions lest we escalate to the Kahal Council. Truth be told, I do not know which way the Council would rule.

(I too have been to their parties in the name of negotiations.)
