The appearance of a fire spirit is a fortunate omen, as they exist of pure light. Reba Levana saw a fire spirit on the night that we brought the Eternal Flame to Kahal, giving us all hope for the future of our community. Fire spirits have no physical form and burn without burning unless agitated. Angered, they can transform into material fire of blue heat and firestorm intensity, which turns bone to ash and melts steel.
Fire spirits live in nomadic nations. Many live in the Ramla Desert, though these free-wheeling creatures can be found across the world. Like us Avodai, they are born, pray, marry, and die. As with any creature of free will, they wrestle their good and evil inclinations and will be judged by the Light upon extinguishing. Many Rafa have speculated what source of fuel their flame consumes, as parent fire spirits do not diminish from lighting children and do not have noticeable pregnancy.
Some fire spirits devote themselves as servants and mouthpieces of the Light. On rare occasions, such a fire spirit will speak the Light’s Will to a righteous Avodai through their hearth in our holy tongue of Devir. They may also deliver the Light’s Judgment. Only infants can understand a fire spirit’s native tongue of cackles and wind.
Commentary #
The Akdhai called them Fire Jinn. Aryen, whose grandparents came to Kahal from Za’halem, would tell stories of corrupt Rafas misusing their craft to trap Fire Jinn in bottles to bring them luck. Whatever fortuitous luck is always balanced by misfortune by the end. The Rafas always end up with severe burns. Humanize our neighbors, lest we dehumanize ourselves.

Without the Fire Spirits, our people would never have survived Muzna’s evil plan to exile us into the Ramla Dessert. What an oversight, for the Book of Spirits to detail their metaphysical characteristics without celebrating how they saved our people!
