It is said that the Phoenix lives for 1000 years. Rafa Hana bet Efrat v’ Lior claimed that they live for 3 millenia, but Reba Yuva bet Bayla v’ Velvel says they only live for a century. 

When the Phoenix dies in a nest of myrrh, it is reborn within 3 days. The Phoenix’s vibrant feathers evoke the flames that erupt upon landing in their nests. My teacher Rafa Eldad said he saw the rebirth of a phoenix as a young boy. It was quite a sight!

Commentary #

Shouldn’t Phoenix become increasingly common, over time? You might think so, when more are born and they so rarely die. Implying that they do not reproduce, but only birth themselves.
