Fools are shape shifting spirits who have no material form unless they take the shape of a human or animal. In the early days of Kahal before we learned their ways, they caused quite a bit of heartache. Their favorite evil trick was to change into the form of a deceased spouse and entice their surviving love. Quite a few people who had lost their spouses during the expulsions fell for this trick.

We also learned that babies born of a fool and human will not survive pregnancy. They are born limp and deformed. A person who lays with a fool should bathe once they discover what has happened. For someone who can become pregnant, it is best to induce bleeding as soon as possible. Therefore, they will not have to endure the heartache and risk.

Today fools only tend to get away with changing themselves into animals, such as lost sheep and goats. When a person approaches to help, they stand up on two legs and run away laughing heartily.

Commentary #

Just this week, two fools played the cruelest trick. They took the form of Lumdai men and wore robes stolen from the local priests. Wielding pitchforks left in a field, they yelled mangled slurs and chased school children around the square. When Rafa Keila came down and figured out what was happening, they ran off cackling. Sadly their mischievousness is less dangerous than if they had actually been our human neighbors. The incident may be a useful, if traumatizing, lesson for the children.
