Wolfolk

Table of Contents

Among the Avodai, there are some people who can turn into wolves. They cannot always control when they change, so they must be careful to not be caught among the Lumdai. Other Avodai have an obligation to protect them from exposure. When a Wolfolk changes, it is best to be careful as their wild inclinations are not inhibited. It is best if they spend this time in the forest away from people. I knew one Wolfolk. As a toddler, she accidentally killed her older brother. She could never let go of that guilt.

My grandfather Zadik of blessed memory, loved to tell the tale of the Wolfolk Benji bet Arielle v’ Simon, may his memory be always honored.

The 5970s were a terrible time for the Avodai of Kahal. The Governor forced Avodai to wear striped blue hats and greatly restricted our right to trade in Terida. The Lumdai Church spoke slander against us every week. It was a time of poverty and fear. In 5978, our neighbors stormed our home. Benji defended all of Kahal in wolf form. Where dozens might have died, we only lost two souls, may their memory be a blessing. Kahal honored Benji as a hero, yet a week later the Terida army came and killed him and his family. The whole community mourned him for a year as if he was our own family.

Rosh Reba Nakum teaches that wolfolk must still perform their obligation to prayer, even in wolf form and refrain from meat, which can be challenging when they transform. They may purify themselves through prayer and immersion in water if they accidentally eat meat while in wolf form.
